Games Industry – Designer

The main responsibility of the games designer is to devise what the game consists of, its mechanics within how it plays and defining all the core elements of its design. These include:

  • Setting
  • Structure
  • Rules
  • Story
  • Characters
  • Objects / Props
  • Vehicles
  • Devices available to the player
  • User Interface

The designers must have strong communication skills, explaining the concept to the remainder of the development team to ensure all assets and computer code that is produced is in line with the games vision. Also, they decide how to create the best using a combination of the above elements, whilst maintaining it within a strict budget and timescale.
